X (Twitter) shadowban statistics
How many X accounts look shadowbanned? These numbers come from the visibility checks people run on xshadowban.com, counted anonymously. Each account counts once per period, using the result of its most recent check, so someone checking the same handle twenty times does not move the numbers. Updated Nov 1, 2026.
All time
Distinct handles, all time
3,603 of 8,085 accounts, last 30 days
1.2% more possibly restricted
Weekly trend
Share of checked accounts each week that came back likely shadowbanned (red) or possibly restricted (amber). Weeks with fewer than 20 accounts are left out.
Which restrictions fail most often
Each check runs several separate probes. This is how often each one failed in the last 30 days (per-probe results are recorded since Oct 31, 2026).
| Probe | Failed | Warning | Tested |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ghost ban | 59% | 22% | 858 |
| Search ban | 41% | 0.0% | 860 |
| Search suggestion ban | 25% | 0.0% | 860 |
| Sensitive-media flag | 25% | 8.8% | 861 |
| Typeahead ban | 82% | 0.0% | 860 |
How these numbers are made
Every check on xshadowban.com runs the same public probes: whether recent posts appear in a from:handle search, whether the account shows up in People search and autocomplete, whether a phrase from a recent post can be found, and whether recent posts carry a sensitive-media flag. The verdict “likely shadowbanned” means at least two of the four core visibility probes (search, People search, autocomplete, phrase search) failed.
The people who use a shadowban checker are not a random sample of X. Many of them already suspect a problem, so the share flagged here is higher than it would be across all accounts. Read the trend more than the level: a sudden jump across many unrelated accounts usually means X changed something.
Only completed checks count. Repeated checks of the same handle inside a short window, checks that failed to finish, and results shown again from a recent check are left out, and nothing here identifies an account. X does not publish an official shadowban flag, so every number is a heuristic, not an enforcement record.
